These mesmerising paintings by British artist Lucy Temple radiate with colour and intricate patterns. Alluding to the geometric configurations of the spiritual mandala, Temple’s works draw the viewer in with their meticulous, kaleidoscopic compositions. Lucy’s rigorous formal training informs her work. She has an MA from the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts in London where she studied Islamic design and ancient traditional skills such as Indian miniature painting, icon painting, calligraphy and ceramic tiles. Her father is a world-renowned icon dealer and she often assists him with the restoration of religious icons and artefacts. The artist spends hours creating these exquisite, highly detailed paintings, which take traditional Islamic patterns as a starting point. They encourage a meditative visual experience, with the recurring, complex forms capturing a sense of the infinite.
